Vintage Indian kantha quilt with patchwork front and simple back.
Made from upcycling disused fabrics such as old sari’s and other cuts of cotton fabrics. A running stitch that combines several layers of fabric to create warm and practical quilts.
Traditionally each family member from every family would have a kantha quilt each, as well as extras for guests or special occasions, such as weddings or special dowry pieces. The craft has been passed down through generations of women and would be made by either one woman or many together, each starting from a corner and working inwards.
