Brigit Nilsson tapestry

£0.00
sold out

Large tapestry by Swedish artist Louise Gazelius, of one of Swedens most famous opera singers Brigit Nilsson. C. 1971

Price on request

Written in one of the letters shown below Gazelius writes ‘ Brigit Nilsson stands on a stage somewhere in the world. Behind the scene is her father who loyally wishes his daughter to be home more often and for safety sake, bravely holds the Swedish flag over his head. Somewhere an admirer sits enjoying the tune being sung. He represents the people all over the world, and in order to be able to tell everyone how beautifully she sings, he symbolically says ‘Brigit Nilsson has a gold throat’. Meanwhile a conductor casts long admiring glances at her, and some distance away another conductor tries to entice our great singer to sing somewhere else on earth. It seems he wants to grab hold of the gold pouring out. During the trips around the world’s big cities, I suspect that Brigit Nilsson’s thoughts to go back to her childhood home, where the trees have once again come to life and whisper slowly to each other when a summer wind with a few clouds pass by. It’s like a fairytale i wanted to shape Brigit Nilsson into a tapestry because the fairytale and the tapestry will last a lifetime.’

The tapestry has a hole on the bottom left corner as shown in the photos.

Along with the tapestry there are the letters from Louise Gazelius speaking of the tapestry and her work.

A polaroids of the work being held up in their garden, as well as a flyer from the Brigit Nilsson museum in Sweden that she had attended later on in her life.
