Indigo tie dye mud cloth from Burkina Faso, this type of indigo tie dying is also produced over much of West Africa. Made of 7 handwoven cotton thin panels, which are later hand stitched together and dyed with fermented mud and indigo.

Natural indigo dye is commonly sourced from two plants indigofera and lonchocarpus cyanescens. Synthetic indigo was introduced in the 1960’s which is still commonly used alongside the natural alternative.

The tradition of indigo mud cloth dates back hundreds of years with techniques being passed down through generations.
